Default Removing coolant hoses

Hey everyone, I'm replacing my water pump and t-stat this week and I ran into a bit of a snag. After getting the fan off I was able to fanangle the hoses off of the t-stat but then I tried to remove the hose to the water pump and I am having no luck. Is there some secret to getting those hoses off? Obviously I loosened the clamp and slid it off the hose so it is not restricting it.

Just don't know if there is a method I should be following. For the hoses on the t-stat I just pulled and moved it back and forth. That method isn't really working for the pump hose.

Also, I've read that I should flush the system with water. Should I do this before or after I put on the new pump and t-stat?

they make a tool with is basically a screw driver bent into a hook, that you side in between the hose and whatever your trying to get it off to break the seal. just bend a cheap screw drivwer
