RPM gauge dropped then car stopped
Hello, I have a 99 Series 1 Disco. Yesterday my RPM gauge dropped, the car struggled a bit then stopped. Radio, lights, etc kept working.
Turned key off, tried to start the car again, it cranked, started, RPM stayed low, struggled and stopped again.
Third try, RPM gauge was still low but car started, I heard the belt squeel and then it stopped again.
I remember reading in a thread here that the RPM gauge was somehow related to the alternator (I can't find the thread anymore), so I was wondering if a bad alternator could cause this type of problem.
Thanks for any help.
P.S. When the RPM gauge stays low and I hit the gas, the car revs just fine
