OK I think I am to the point I want/ need to buy a scanner

I am looking at either a hawkeye or the tek 3000 think Atlantic British sells

We have the 98 d1 but are looking at buying an lr3

The tek looks like it does everything and you only need to buy 1additional cable

Hawk eye needs each vehicle activated at a big price plus cables

Looking for guys input that have used em especially the tek from ab

the Hawkeye can be expensive, if you are going to be using it on several different models. But it is also pretty simple to use.

I picked up a used Hawkeye (version 5) unlocked for a couple of models. I then bought the unlock code for DII's (I really think the Hawkeye was specifically designed for the DII given it's much greater capabilities with that model compared with all the other Rovers) from AB. I love it but also realize if you bought it new with three models unlocked you'd be looking at over $1k!!!

My Mechanic has the Tekpro, and really it only works well on D2 Bosch systems. Half the time he can't get it to work with RRC and the D1's. He threatens to return it every time he uses it.

I bought an Autologic. If you can find one used on the cheap, then they charge you $1200 a year for all the software updates and you get phone support. The hours are like 7 am-8 pm east coast. You call, leave a message with the receptionist and a tech calls you back within an hour or so. Not only do they walk you through the use of the machine but will tell you how to fix the problem. Like literally what bolt to turn and how much. Works for all Land Rovers and Range Rovers, OBD1, OBD2, and so on.

Actually does more than the LR T4 tool that the dealerships use.

Check this write up.

Choosing a Land Rover Test System: T4 vs. Autologic

How much did you pay for the Autologic? The capabilities and support are incredible but if you're not a very busy, full range Rover repair shop the $12,000 entry cost for Autologic coupled with the $1200/yr cost for support is hard to justify. I felt guilty recommending a Hawkeye (or Nanocom) due to the expense but that's pocket change compared to what you're using. I know who I'll be calling for diagnostic help!

$2600, plus the $1200. I couldn't help myself. Especially after calling Autologic and getting the $12k quote! The deal was too good to pass on.

That is a great deal but still more than most would be willing to spend unless they have a repair business.

True. I've made about $600 from programming remotes and providing diagnostics, only $3200 to go and I break even!

ok so i am gonna revisit this, since we now have the lr3

looking more into the tek pro 300lr, it appears it is a hawkeye pro ( available in uk) thats rebranded for sale in usa

looking over the application chart, it shows it does everything on every model, no unlock codes no service fees no vin unlock fees

there is noone in our area that has rover capabilities except the dealer and seems only for newer ones , so on sale for 1100or 1200 think we will be buying this cause i figure I can also use it to help others in my area with older rovers and maybe slowly recoup some of the cost

my only thought is should i buy it now on sale or wait till black friday /cyber monday to see if I can get it a little cheaper

thoughts?
