Default Shifting problem 2002 discovery II

Hello everyone,

I have a 2002 discovery II and am having a problem with the shifter. It is an automatic with about 62000 on it.

I went out the other day and my friend put some change on the center console right below the window buttons, right under the 'mode' button. The change is gone now and upon further review the shifter casing has a little play to it. So my guess is the change fell beneath the shifter casing.

I started to try and see if I could hear the coins by shifting back and forth and found something that may be a problem. Now when I shift into drive (D) I can shift it into third (3) with out pressing the trigger to release the solenoid...So it just slips from drive to third with hardly any force. Every other shift requires the solenoid trigger to be pressed in.

Is this normal? I tried looking online but couldnt find anything.

The only other problem I am having with it is the gas cover is broken. I need to buy the little rubber piece that attaches to the lid and locks onto the post.

If you can please help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

If you need any additional information please let me know and I will promptly supply it.
