Default Snow Plow on 1996 Discovery I

I have had a 1996 Discovery I for about 10 years. It has been used as just an off-road vehicle for the past 4-5 years and is not in great shape. With winter approaching, I want to install a plow on the front of it. I already have a snow plow and I am fairly sure that I can modify the mount to work. The main concern that I have are the shocks and coils. I do not think that they can support the weight of the plow to lift it. I am on a very tight budget, so I am hoping to come up with a low cost solution. There are several "U-Pull-It" type places in the area for parts. Does anyone know of any other vehicles that have compatible heavy duty shocks/springs? Any other advice is definitely welcome!

I wouldn't worry too much about the shocks, they don't support any weight.
For springs you'll probably need heavy duty (though you could try it with what you have). Odds are anything from a junk yard won't be much better unless you can find a lifted Discovery in one. Keep your old springs though because once the plow is removed the front will be sitting really high.

A truly low cost solution and rather simple I suppose. Make you up some spacers to place underneath those front springs to offset the weight of that plow then just take them out once the snow melts.

Or solid

Granted that's the rear spring but you get the idea

Spacers won't help the old springs' inability to support the weight of a plow. They would, however, help raise the front a bit. As long as it's only off-road they would probably be ok, depending on the weight of the plow and how weak the springs are. If they are compressed too much there won't be the needed downward travel.
