Default Starter help

I have a 97 Discovery that I'm trying to get the starter replaced on. Any tricks? I'm having a heck of a time reoving the first allen bolt. I've tried everything and can't seem to get the bolt to move. I've even tried a new air rachet with no luck.

Default RE: Starter help

I have just done this 2 months ago on my '93 RR, I couldn't get enough leverage with a standard allen key and borrowed a allen key that fitted a 1/2" drive ratchet the allen key was about 10 > 12" long to clear the end of the starter motor and I was then able to get a decent lever on it.

NOTE: make sure you clean out any crap in the top of the allen screw and tap the allen key well into the keyway, if you stuff the allen screw up you're in big trouble.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the tips. Ended up buying new tools and with the help of an extra long extension we got through it. It was one of the worst starters I've ever had to replace.
