Default Starter (Quick Help)

I have a 1995 Disco1 115,xxx miles. 3.9l V8i Blah Blah...

The starter is bad, Advance auto parts here in town has ONE on the shelf, but I have no idea how to tell whether or not I have the 'Cold Climate Package' or whatever..

How do I find out whether this starter can be used on my truck? I bought my Disco used and I have no historical records on it....

thanks in advance for putting up with my manic side. . . . soon to come back. . . the non-manic, which I'm pretty non committal about. LoL

Cold climate package is basically heated seats, windshield, etc...shouldn't make a difference. Here's the link from AB's website, looks like all the older Range Rovers, DI and DII's all use the same motor.

I agree, cold climate package had nothing to do with the starter.
Do you have a heat w/s and seats, is there a 110 plug pucked in around the radiator?

OK so here's my dumb question.. I'm allowed ONE per thread that I start, so here it goes. . .

Atlantic British says that the starter from a Disco 1 fits from a 1994-1999.... So that's it, it's the same part?

Does the 96-98 have a different engine? If so, is it the same part throughout the whole model range? If not, why would someone say that it only fits a 96-98 Disco??

Gosh, I wish I was a mechanic...

discuss. . . ..

Who said that, Advance Auto? They're computersare often wrong. Are you installing it yourself? I would get it from advance auto (assuming that it's not a bottom of the barrel, cheapy - they do have quality stuff) and if it looks like it won't fit, you can take it back easy enough.

Did you ever fix any of your other problems you were having?

Yours has a distributor, and the 96-98 has a coil pack to fire the spark plugs. Should be the same starter across the board for D1's.

I've heard all manner of things from Advance Auto, AutoZone, etc., etc. around here. The same place (of the above parts slingers) told me yes we can order the part AND no that's a dealer only part...within about ten minutes. Whatever...

I'm ordering starter off the internet and getting someone here to put it on. I have the Shop Manual. I'll go talk to one of the mechanics around here and see if he can hook me up with the labor to get the new starter put on.

I also ordered my new MAF and a couple of O2 sensors, so I think I am on my way to having something that at least will drive down the road.

Currently, the only code that anyone can get off of my vehicle is '12,' which means that my MAF sucks. Someone on here suggested to me that I try and electrical contact cleaner on my broken MAF and see if that works... Sorry I'm way too much of a pansy to risk that $600 part that's only working slightly bad. I've had a couple mechanics take a look at my beast and yeah, the O2 sensors need to be changed, the wires are good, there's good electrical flow through my vehicle, the plugs are new (Bosch +4s) and the wires are new (STI 8mm), so no real big changes that I see need to be made.........

Yes, I'm patiently waiting. . . .

My parts FINALLY got here. I don't know how shipping could go any slower, but oh well. . .

So, After all the parts that I bought, the one that I have questions about is the Air Flow Sensor that I purchased. It has the following markings:

LUCAS
20AM
Part No______ERR5595A
____________70419A
MFR Date 1496

near that little label is a UPC bar code that has the following numbers above it:

20AM____463112

Is this the correct part # for the Air Flow Sensor of a 1995 Discovery1 3.9l V8 auto tranny? Thanks for all the help!!!

You are all men among boys...
