starter r&r
I've only had my range rover a few months now. It's a 99 4.0 [wife loves it!] I have a starting problem! Since I've owned it after it ran for awhile it would start sluggishly, now it wont start at all. any ideas, comments, or suggestions? I don't hear a typical click sound indicating the starters bad, it has plenty of battery.
In no particular order:
1. Battery terminals need to be clean and tight, battery volts need to be 11 volts or so when cranking, if battery has died in the drive way, may need to charge overnight with a small charger and extension cord. Of course can try jumping with another vehicle. Caution - when doing this, truck may think alarm should still be "ON", so use something to hold down the alarm switch for the hood before attaching the external jump.
2. Battery to frame (-) cable connection can be bad at frame, follow battery cable.
3. Cables can be loose at starter.
4. Starter relay can be bad (underhood fuse box).
5. Starter can be bad, removal is fun, have to use long socket extensions and work from in front of front axle, PITA, etc.
