Default Stuck in 4X4, Please Help

I have a 1998 Land Rover Discovery, & last week i was in the mud and so I put it in 4X4. When a made it to the main road i tried to put it back into H gear and it woulod not go back!!!! I have tried reversing it and then putting it in neutral. I had no luck. I had to have it towed. i pulled apart the consle and opened the transfer case from top. i had no luck there either. the linkiage going from the transfer case to the tranny seems to be binding and is really tough to move. any one have experience in this area? Please help.

Get at least one wheel on both axles off the ground to remove any binding in the drive train and try it.
