Hey guys, I have a 2001 Discovery 2 and I'm moving across the country and wanted to tow a trailer. The manual says the vehicle comes with a class 3 trailer hitch receiver but I don't see one, perhaps the previous owner removed it... So I called a couple shops and there was a huge difference in the price quotes for adding one. One guy said to order a receiver online and he'd weld it on for $80, another said he'd bolt the receiver on but I would need wiring done for the electrical harness and it would be $500 labor.

So my questions are... Would there be an electrical socket for the trailer on my vehicle? Also can a towing receiver be bolted on or does it have to be welded? If it can be bolted on would that be a pretty simple task? I have sockets and a torque wrench... Also I found this:

Would that work for my vehicle?

Buy the hitch on e-bay and install it yourself.
Trailer Hitch Bolt On Discovery II - Land Rover tow accessories from Atlantic British
Then buy this wire harness.
Land Rover Trailer Wiring And Towing Kit
Install it yourself.

Total time for a DIY install of the hitch and wire harness is 2 hrs with basic tools.
