Trans safe mode
Hi every one,
I am a new member and I know this topic has been on here a million times but im not sure if any of them answer my question so here it is-
I have recently brought a 2002 range rover vogue 4.4. The dreaded message has started to appear and the car will only drive in limp mode. now this normally happens when cold and first starting before trying to select any gears. if I turn of the ignition several times it tends to be ok but this can take up to 10 times. when it is driving it is fine and it does not show the message until restarting the engine again.... it also happens now and then when warm but mostly when engine is cold.... Looking through the vehicles history it had a new transmission fitted at a land rover dealers in 2007 at 61000 since then it has only covered 45000! also it seems to have had either the gear box oil changed or topped up just 1 month ago.
Can any one tell me where I should start my investigating as to why the message is showing.
Many thanks
Dan

has the charging system been check could be a bad cell in the battery?
RR could be different than a Disco, but on a 2002 Disco if your battery voltage is less than 13.5 volts output the transmission ecu goes into fault mode.
that could explain why it gets better after it is started, because now you are running off the alternator.
Just an idea
