Can someone educate me on the non-computer controlled transmission found in the early Discovery's?

I'm specifically wondering about whether an early D1 non-computer controlled transmission can be installed in a D2.

What's the model number of the early D1 transmissions? 4HP22?

What years were the non-computer controlled transmissions used?
