96 discovery been in family couple of years. runs great, slipped once last week when I put it in park. I checked trany fluid, barely low, topped it off. That was Fri. Sunday, drove about 30 miles to church and back. Parked and seemed all was fine. Then like a teenage daughter where all was okay a moment ago and then, "Good Lord, what was that all about!" kind of deal. It moved about 3 feet Mon morning and that was it. It drives with differential locked, but not just the transmission. It will not engage. HELP!

 

I would suggest you PM me your tele number so I can walk you thru what to test for.
You have broken either a CV joint or diff.

 

Just pull both axles, you have to pull them anyway to replace the diff.
If one CV is broken my advice is to replace both since they were both likely strained to near the breaking point, and one did break.
If both axles are ok, then the problem is your diff and you need to pull that and go from there.
