Should I take from this discussion that Mobile 1 15W50 is the best easily available option for a Disco at this point and should satisfy the needs of the engine? Each of us must descide what we can do/afford to do for our trks. The guy using store brand oil may get just as many miles as somebody using full synthetic with extra additives.
IT IS JUST A CAR. I use Mobil 1 15w50 because I like the heavier oils and I truly believe that thicker oils protect better.
Not everybody can afford full synthetic motor oil. Due what you think is best and move on, life is way to short to fight over motor oil.

I'm definitely not fighting--but maybe you're referring to other posts above. Just trying to understand what will serve my truck best. I drove a Honda for years and didn't think twice about most maintanence issues. Hondas, generally speaking, just run. But while the Disco requires more care and understanding, I'm enjoying working through that process, and have a lot more fun with the truck. I'm willing to give it what it needs, within reason, to live a long and healthy life--or at least the best shot at a long and healthy life possible.

Ouch, not nice, but thank you for your critique. You are right about my posting if you don't read it or have pre-decided not to believe it. 
I did not hope to prove anything to anyone..only help. What I indicated was the results of OUR research and that there are choices for each owner to make. 1. You can take a chance and use any oil, 2. you can rely on what oil companies tell you assuming they tell you anything meaningful and then follow that without testing, 3. you can add enough zddp to bring you up to the traditional levels.
The only thing we can be sure of is that the last choice can cause no harm (70 year track record) and possibly (who knows) avoid damage. We have no long term track record on any other option
I sincerely hope everything works out long term for you and others at the lower zddp levels. Let's give it few years and if your option group is still running fine withiout cam or lifter damage, my team can save 2 dollars an oil change.
