Doing a diagnostic on my 2004 Disco 2; had some overheating, coolant loss & power loss. So, I thought head gaskets. Took the heads off and there is no obvious failure; however, it still may have been the issue. The passenger side gasket especially: It appears heavily corroded which revealed the perforated surface and may have allowed compression loss/airleak. Between cylinder 1 & 2 also looks to have some corrosion as well. Is this common for a Disco 2 gasket.. revealing the perforated surface before failure? There was coolant gurgling; however, no white smoke nor residue in oil. I’m going to replace them anyway; just wanted to possibly look for other explanations.
Attached are some pictures of the gaskets and heads. I didn’t clean them up at all in these photos.
