Default What oil to put in a R380 in the absence of MTF94

Hi folks

I'm newly in possession of a '96 Defender 110 300TDi with 400,000km on the clock, which hasn't had a full service in at least five years. I'm running through all routine service tasks, including changing the gearbox oil.

Unfortunately the current recommended oil for the R380 gearbox, MTF94, isn't available in my country, and cannot be imported for tedious bureaucratic reasons.

Before I spend money and time on the oil change I want to ask if there's a recommended and widespread alternative that will fit the bill. ATF Dexron IID, which was the original spec for this gearbox, can be found easily but I've never heard of most of the brands and it's suspiciously cheap. There is a Liqui Moly shop here, whose website suggests their GL3+ SAE 75w80 gear oil, but I can't find any real world reports on its performance.

Worth mentioning that the box runs fine most of the time, but is a bit blocky into 1st and 2nd when cold, and get very crunchy when very hot (eg: after a few hours of slow summertime off-roading in low range).

Any advice appreciated!
