Default gear oil/trasfer case oil (disposal of)

I'm feeling a bit emboldened after doing my recent oil change myself, and I'm wondering about perhaps diving in and doing some of the 60K/90K maintenance things myself as well: but where would I dispose of used gear oil and transfer oil? I am assuming I am not taking it to the service station and giving it to them like used engine oil?

I usually just dump all my oils together, including gear oil and ATF. I don't think it really matters. I've never had a problem disposing of it, anyway.

Any of the recycling places will take it as well. Just a thicker oil really. Do the xfer case adn diffs. Very easy.

you can bring it to any service station. they will take the oils from you. It helps if you know someone who might work at a place, but all in all they should have no issues taking the oils from you. Or you can find the local recycle place and go there.
Keep going on the do it yourself jobs.. Most(certainly not all) are fairly easy if you have the manuals and a little bit of patience. the right tool certainly helps too.. I am now doing 90% of all my work, I have a friend who is an ide rover repair guy with a shop I pull in pick a spot in the lot and go to work. he checks in on me and laughs at all the wrong moments and then walks away. its awesome to fix, upgrade maintain your own vehicle not to mention the savings are HUGE! good luck and enjoy....

I used to work for a oil recycler, any quick lube will take it, any auto parts place, and like already meantioned, no brake or power steering fluid as they are both corrosive and the place (AutoZone for example) can get fined if they get caught taking it or caught with it in their waste oil tank.
We allowed used coolant but that varies from place to place, its best to ask about coolant.
