Default what should my next Rover be?

Im going to the dealers auction on Tuesday, to do some recon for my next vehicle. Ive had a D2 for 4 years and really like it, but it is getting a bit oong in the tooth for me.

My budget is around $10 g's ( wholesale price). For that price what should I look for and be aware off in a rover? Fixing things arent a problem (I own a repair shop). I do realize that I may not find anything in my budgetk which keans I will either hold or buy something else, for now.

Is there a particular LR3 to walk from? One thats better than another? What about the Range Rovers? I know one of the motors is not terribly reliable, as are LR3 difs. Things to look for?

Thanks in advance!

On the Range Rover's the BMW engine is the one generally held in low regard. Look for one with the Jag engine. That will probably be outside of your price range though.

LR3 would probably be closer to your budget. I would stay away from the V6 and the 05 model. The 05 is just me as I try never to buy the first year of a new model as it always seems to have more problems. If you can find one with the HD package I would go that route as it gets you a locker and a full size spare.

So, 4.6 = rover
Pre '06 4.4 = bimmer (is that the crapcan moter from the 750il?)
'06 + = jaguar 4.4

Seems like I read a comment somewhere about the Range Rovers, that they changed the motor mid year in 06. Is there a tell to know what im looking at?

Does a full sized spare tip off that there is a diff locker or is there a vin code?
