Default a window regulator question

Regarding the drivers side front window:
There's nothing stopping the motor gear from running the regulator gear all the way off the teeth. In other words, when looking at the regulator and motor mounted in the car, when the window comes down, the reg gear travels upward. When it gets to the top (and the window to the bottom) what's supposed to stop it? There's a little pip on the regulator but it doesn't stop it. The motor gear will run the big gear all the way oout the end, and with no teeth for the last inch or so, won't pull it back up.The last few teeth on the bottom of the reg gear are chewed up. There is a non-tapped hole in the reg. Is there supposed to be a block bolt of some sort there?

This is a brand new aftermarket regulator by the way.

What gives?

Thanks,
Brent 2001 Disco II
