Words of wisdom??
Hey guys,
I posted here before about my overheated motor on my 2000 Land Rover Discovery. I've torn down the motor and other than blown head gasket, I found the source of my engine knock. The #7 cylinder exhaust valve seat became unseated and got hung up around the valve. No real apparent damage except for two small dimples in the piston. I used dye penetrant (Magnuflux) to check for cracks on the heads & block and none found. This is also good. So The heads are off to the machine shop for repair/valve job. I buffed out the very small raised edge on the piston. I have a gasket set (proline) from Roversnorth and new head bolts. When I get the heads back, I'll commence reassembly. This isn't my first rodeo as I have repaired/overhauled many cars and own a race car, but am not familiar with Land Rovers as this is my first. I don't know the history on this vehicle as it was purchased from an auction. It has 110,000 miles on it and appears to have been well maintained. There is very little varnish on the valve train parts. I have the service manual on disc for such things as torque values, assembly instructions. So I will clean everything, replace all hoses/belts ect. I am seeking any words from the wise out there in regards to suggestions for things I might not know or have overlooked in regards to putting it all back together. Any tips or things I might do (other than what I've mentioned) while I have it all tore down?? Thanks guys. this is an awesome forum!
