Default 08 LR2 No Crank 245K

Sorry for the thread: I found some info on here about no crank but could not figure out how to delete this thread; will post my results.
Just got an 08 LR2 (245K) & the Landrover dealership does "not" work on cars older than 2014.
1. New/Charged battery. New Remote battery.
2. Insert key & press start & dash lights up but NO crank & fuel gauge operates.
3. Checked ALL fuses under hood.
4. Bypassed Start Relay & starter turns over great but will not start w/Driver in seat; foot on brake & pressing starter button once.
A. Switched relays around & got same results.
5. Disconnected Neg Battery cable & noticed a spark (ALL doors shut & lights off).
6. Someone indicated how to reset computer; tried this but no results.
7. Hook up code reader & got NO codes.
Could there be a fuse inside that could be defective causing this problem or what do you suggest?

Transmission in P or N?

Has it ever started with you?

Another possibility, the pattern/frequency of the red flashing light on the dash display is relevant and changes if the immoblizer is triggered.

We got from a friend & it had been sitting for about a year; he had started it 4 times before. I tried it in P & N. I have done a search on NO crank & plan to test all that info tomorrow. Forgot to mention that it would not crank & we had to tow it!!! Can you explain the flashing pattern/frequency?

It will change from a constant steady flash to flashing a pattern. What code reader are you using? It's more likely the issue is electrical if the car has been sitting for a year. It could also be as simple as the new remote battery not soldered in properly.

The FOB does not depend on the battery to talk to the car and enable start, the battery is there to operate the door locks, rear hatch lock and the panic button.

Was the FOB battery changed before or after this started happening? It could be that whomever did the work on the FOB damaged it.

I do not know that; will have to check w/previous owner to see when it was changed. The SM relay clicks when we press the start button. I crossed the terminals at the SM relay & the starter worked but would not start. I had my son press the brake at the same time. I swapped around the relays so that should not be the problem. We are about to send it to a shop & I am a Vet on a fixed income so we were hoping to be able to find the problem. I followed the advice on this board of Battery disconnect; touch + & - ; wait the 10 mins, etc but that did not work. Thanks for the help.

You really need to scan the car's modules with a scanner that understands Land Rover modules. A plain OBD scanner will likely not tell you what is wrong. If you plan to keep this car you should buy a good scanner anyway, something like an Autel with the Land Rover programming, or an iCarSoft model for Land Rover/Jaguar. Where are you located?
