Hello. I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 - Trying to upgrade to a 150amp Bosch alternator upgrade AL0807N. New alternator has 4 connections on back. Battery 1, battery 2, the exciter wire post and a plug in clip connection. Old alternator has 2 connections. Battery and the exciter wire post. My battery cable would not reach the battery 1 connector so I used the battery 2 connector. I have nothing in the plug in clip connection and battery hooked to battery 2 on back of the alternator. All installed and ready to hook up fully charged battery. Will this setup work OK and be safe?
Thought I'd ask the group for an intelligent answer so I don't make a big roman candle here.

Reason: Sorry wrong group. Should of posted on the Land Rover Discovery 2 forum
My guess is that either of the battery posts would work fine for a single battery. I'd guess there are two posts for one of two reasons...
1) To spread the load out, or make it easier to connect separate systems such as a hotel battery.
2) So that a hotel battery on a camper can be isolated from the starting battery. In this case if the two posts are isolated to separate windings, the max rating might only be achievable with both posts connected. Try to find the documentation to see how the alternator is wired. Meter the two battery posts, if there is zero resistance between them, then they are most likely connected to all the same windings and are interchangeable. If it's an open circuit between them, I'd do further research.
Hello Merlinj79 . I'm pretty sure either would of worked. Most likely for a dual setup. Also possible one would work for a lead coming from the other side of vehicle.
I believe the W port is for various accessories. Works fine unconnected.
