Default 2008 LR2 Gas Mileage

Hey guys, first post! Glad to be here, excited to get to know everyone.

I just bought a 2008 Land Rover LR2, so far I've put about 500 miles on it. I'd say 400 miles are highway on cruise @70mph and 100 are easy city driving. I've noticed I really can't get above 15mpg on my trip computer. I reset the average and conservatively drove to and from work (Which is mostly highway) but still my average will not get above 15.2mpg is anyone else seeing similar numbers? Could there be something wrong with the car? I've read tons of people getting 18mpg and even over 20 on the highway. Perhaps the fuel I'm using? Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks again! Atheos

Pemium fuel may bump that a little. As will tune up, new air filter, tire pressure, etc. If O2 sensors are bad it will usually drop much further and have check engine light on with stored codes. Fed mpg site says 15 - 22 for LR2, but says 12-16 for my D1, and I have seen 17 but not often, more like 15.

Thanks for the reply, I don't believe I put Premium fuel in last time, I believe it was mid-grade 89 octane. I have no engine lights, and had a mechanic look it over and everything looked good. I'll try putting some higher end fuel in it and maybe some fuel filter cleaner and see if that does the trick. Thanks

We had an 08 LR2 loaner over Christmas that had about 28k on it. Running premium fuel about 50/50 highway with temps in the high teens to low 30's over a 5 day period we averaged 21.5. I was very happy with that. Sounds like something isn't right if you're getting 15. Try premium and do the tuneup that Savannah buzz recommended if the mechanic didn't do them already.

We get around 23 hwy in Alabama using regular fuel. City is about 16-18. Its all about how you drive!

We use Mobil 1 which seems to make a difference in the LR2 but not so much in the LR3. Usually average about 20 around town and closer to 25 on the highway. Premium seems to bump mileage on the highway.

Just got back from a trip to Highlands, NC from Birmingham, AL. Using premium fuel with 4 people and luggage loaded, we averaged 25.7 hwy going 70mph at 2000 RPM most the trip. On the way back I used regular fuel to see the diff and gas mileage dropeed to about 23.5. Overall, we made it up there and back with only $100 in fuel costs!

I drive about half on the highway and half in slow moving cities or communities. I'm averaging 20.1. I'm also using 89 octane fuel.

I have a 2008 LR2 HSE, Just bought it with 70K Kms. It was running a little sluggish. I wanted to do some maintenance that would help with Fuel economy. I wanted to change the fuel filter but found out its a permanent feature on these trucks. I did want to change the plugs but just haven't got around to that yet. I did try Gumout Regane complete fuel system cleaner. Its about 14$ a bottle out here in Canada but its an American product. It gets added to a full tank of fuel and works excellent. I used it twice so far.It seemed to boost the MPG by a bit to the good side. Maybe an extra 2-3 MPG overall.
