They said that they could not communicate with it because it said it was in a crash, they said that there is probably something else wrong with it and when they fix this issue there will most likely be something else also!!!! What causes this

I don't like to speculate at other's work, as strange things always seem to happen with these trucks, but this doesn't sound right.

How do they know it's a crash status issue if they can't communicate with the CJB? Ask them for a print out of the fault codes that are, and were in the truck, if the CJB(called body control in the print out i believe) reports anything but an error message, it has comms. I have had many LR2s that for one reason or another have had the battery die, and ended up in crash mode, exactly as you initially described. There are even two bulletins from Land Rover about this very thing.

I find it strange that yours is somehow different. That said, if they are wrong, and it is not crash mode, but the CJB is just dead, then this would be the correct repair. Also, even if it is just crash mode, a new CJB would also resolve the issue, it would just be a gross over-repair.

Default Crash Mode New Software

Yes. My battery died and I replaced it. Then it would hardly stay running. Dealer said it went into crash mode and needed updated software ($300). That was done now running OK.

When I replaced the battery, it would start but run very rough then die. I was told the battery replacement put it into Crash mode and a new software load was needed at $300. I did that and runs OK, but was a $300 software update really needed given your comment about a reset function?

Yes and no.

The vehicle was not in crash mode, or else it would not have even tried to start, starter is disabled.

It starting, and stumbling however is a known issue. It was caused by a glitch in the security system that didn't fully recognize the key, and would prime the fuel pump, but not run it once the engine was started. There have been several instances of this problem setting in after a low voltage, when everything gets reset. There was a software fix for this.

So pretty much, you got the right repair preformed(seems a little steep on price, even for a dealer) but you got an incorrect explanation of what and why it was needed.
