Default 2008 LR2 Steering Pump Replacement

hey guys, seems no one wants to give out any information unless you're opening up your wallet. I need to replace the PS pump and wanted to know if you could tell me what other things i should replace while i'm in there.

The car has been great. I say that because i needed to preface my next comment: it has 210,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champ (knock on wood).

Belts, pulleys, anything that would be wise to do while i'm in that far.

thank you!

Take a look here for what else to replace when replacing the power steering pump

Freel2.com - View topic - 3.2 Serpentine Belt Replacement

note: if the pump is making noise you should replace the reservoir and fluid first and the pump second

Here is the high mileage maintenance list that I put together for the 3.2 LR2

Freel2.com - View topic - Common items for high mileage 3.2

have fun

Default Thank you!

Hey Paul , u rock. Here's the deal. I'm suddenly thinking it's not any of the things outlined in the $2800 repair estimate.

Mainly, because only a visual inspection was made - and I was there. Part of the belt is missing, that could see. Only when I'm turning full L or R does it whine, and also on start up.

I'll also add that when I checked the reservoir it immediately overflowed when I tried topping it off. Normally, I can see free space in it; looked completely dark.

Obviously, the belt needs to be replaced, but will def take u up on your advice to change fluid and reservoir.

Thanks you again for your post!

hey paul, thank you!

i've replied once to your post but the mods haven't approved it. In the meantime, i'll cue up another: do you recommend replacing the water pump if i have to also replace the belt?

Again, i have 211,000 miles on it and it's never been changed nor has it ever given me any problems.

haha "fun." I'll keep that in mind. If you get this sudden sensation like you're being talked about or your ears are burning, i'm under the hood.

and thank you for the high mile maintenance list. I will go down the list and post my achievements.

paul, last question. Given the high miles, the age, etc., what are your thoughts on OEM vs. non-OEM vs. rebuilt?

Michael,

over 200,000 miles with very few problems is amazing!!!

To answer your specific question about the water pump and coolant hoses

If the original part lasted over 200,000 mile I would buy only original parts if I were you.

Note: the 3.2 engine in our LR2 is a Volvo design and it is used in many volvo's

I recently bought a 2010 Volvo S80 3.2 for my son to drive (it front wheel drive so the maintenance is a little less)

Take a look at this link to see what I did in my first few months of ownership

If I would have bought a LR2 with over 100,000 miles I would have done the same items (plus a few more items due to the AWD system)

Good Luck

Paul

you know what, paul. i really do think this is my issue. I've ordered a new reservoir, but in the interim i may pull out the old one and perhaps clean it. Thanks for the fluid recommend! I'm looking for it now.

Mad thanks to you for all the support and work you've done. I've also checked out your posts over at FL2. Impressive.

i think we are going to be mates.
