2009 LR2 Aftermarket Stereo Install
I've been looking around at some information on upgrading the stereo in our 2009 LR2 to something that would be CarPlay compatible. It seems to be an expensive upgrade because of the fiber optic MOST network used in the vehicle for the various radio controls.
I've seen install kits from Scosche and Spiral audio which then also need an additional head unit to go with them.
I did come across this CarNaviPlayer site and unit that seems to convert and also contain a head unit, but I'm not sure I can trust the reviews on their site very much. Not much other info about them on the web.
I'm curious, has anyone else done a similar upgrade on their vehicle?

thanks for the idea to look there. I knew it was a Freelander 2 but didn't think for some reason to look for a specific freelander forum. Sounds like many others (even on that forum) found the same info I did, which ended up in a decision that it was too expensive to do for what it was worth to us. Looked to cost around 500-1000 USD just for the parts, then install (which I'm capable of).

There are nice conversion kits out there for much less than that.

Shop around. Reviews are a bit hard to come by but many of them interface just fine to the rest of the systems on the vehicle, like the steering wheel controls.

Thanks for the good info. I've done some digging and found there are quite a few different android based screen units that could fit in the top portion where some models have the screen. Seems there are a good amount of them that don't have any specific mounting hardware included but I will keep looking. Thanks again for the great hint!

That's because they mount to the bracket where the screen is and only need screws for mounting, if at all. You supply the nylon ties for the wiring, etc.

It's easy to take off the blank over the hole and see if the bracket is there. It should be. Makes no sense to have to retrofit the entire bracket just to add the radio.
