Default 2012 LR2 fuel filter mystery

I have looked 2 days online and in stores for a replacement fuel filter for my 2012 LR2 HSE 3.2 gasoline vehicle. One source shows Mann branded OOS but the remainder of the 8 to 10 places I searched show no listing for this item. Is it possible that this Rover has not fuel filter? Or maybe it is incorporated as part of the fuel pump (inside the gas tank)???
The search for this was the failure to pass this years Smog Test at my DMV test station. Said car was showing a Po171 code and CEL. I am also on way to do a smoke test for any vacuum leaks and try cleaning the MAF sensor.

It was my understanding that this engine was used in several other LR and non-LR vehicles so this difficulty is a mystery to me.

The LR2 gas engine model has two fuel filters, a coarse filter and a fine filter. Both are inside the fuel tank. Getting to them requires removing the entire fuel tank by dropping it from rear underside. This is a major undertaking and you shouldn't be considering it unless you are absolutely sure you have a problem with the filters.

Error code P017100 has absolutely nothing to do with the fuel filters. It means "System too lean (bank 1)". Possible causes are:
  • Intake air leak between MAF sensor and cylinder head
  • Fuel system restriction
  • MAF sensor fault, low intake flow
  • Exhaust leak, before catalytic converter
Corrective action: Check for intake air leaks. Check for low fuel pressure and MAF sensor DTCs. Rectify as necessary. Check for exhaust leaks before the catalytic converter

Dirty fuel filters are less common since the switch from leaded to unleaded gasoline. That's part of the reason they are not typically replaced in modern vehicles. And as fly described, they are a PITA to access.

The cheapest/easiest first thing to try to resolve P0171 is to clean the MAF. Purchase a can of MAF cleaner (spray can) at your local auto parts store. It's a special type of spray for electronics that will evaporate without leaving any residue.

Remove the MAF from the air cleaner assembly and give the sensor element a good spray, but don't touch it with anything else. Then reset the code and cross your fingers.

cleaned MAF with correct spray, let dry and reinstalled. I used OBD reader to reset codes but upon next start of engine the CIL stays illuminated. Checking codes shows P0171 and also P0174 now. I assume next option is to check for vacuum leak. Is a DIY smoke test reasonable for someone to do for first time?

If your OBD reader can display live data, check your fuel trims as a further diagnostic.

I have a problem with my 2008 LR2. First, I have a warning that the coolant is low. But it appears that I have a separated cap for the coolant expansion tank. The cap comes off but the pressure relief valve is stuck inside the opening to the expansion tank. Can I use force to pull it out?

Sorry for delay here. Misplaced my OBD2. Here is what appears to be trim readings. This is stopped in driveway at idle. If it should be while driving, I will have to run the test again

Those figures look good, but you need to be driving to get meaningful readings. They will hop around a bit at different speeds, so try to record the highest readings (all four measurements at the same time).

Pry it off gently with a flat tip screwdriver.
