Default 2012 Radiator Fan not coming

The radiator fan is not coming on when idle. And the temperature gage runs hot. What steps should I take to resolve this?

Likely the fan control module, or it might be the fan motor itself.

I don't think LR sells the module separate from the fan assembly. IIRC there are aftermarket modules, but I'd research the quality.

Or just drop the coin and replace the entire assembly.

But I'd use a scantool with a vehicle-specific database to check for codes first, that will likely help narrow down the root cause.

Also DO NOT let this car overheat, that will set you up for very expensive engine damage. If you must drive it, turn it off when idling at stoplights. It will *probably* stay cool enough with natural airflow in normal driving as long as the car is moving pretty good. If the needle starts to rise above the normal position, that's time to pull over and shutdown.

Lots of aftermarket and used options for the fan module, LR002660. As Merlin said, quality is a concern. But for a 14 year old discontinued model, that's the world we live in.

Check the fuse first. There are two fans that the module controls. My module shorted on one fan side, so the fan would not stop. However the other would still work when the shorted side was disconnected. The fact that both fans do not come on points to fuse or module control failure. I purchased a cheap module, which I did not expect to be very good. It has been in functioning well for over a year.

I have a perfectly good full fan assembly I replaced with a dual fan unit. If you are interested, PM me.

I have a P0480 Intermittent code. I'm now trying to test if my fan is working and I don't have a bi-directional OBD2 scanner to manually command the fan.

For regular operation, does the fan ALWAYS come on when the AC is turned on? Or only when the engine temp reaches a certain level?

P0480 means either the fan or the control module has failed. You can test the fan by disconnecting it from the module and applying 12vdc power. The A/C does not control the fan, the thermostat does.

There is not sufficient room to access the fan power plug.

That is a different story. For that you need to read the Service Manual and have a lot of patience, because if its either the fan or the control module, removing it is not easy.

I'm pretty sure the fan comes on whenever the AC is running, that's normal for most cars because they AC simply will not work without airflow when idling.

When our fan module was failing that was the first thing I noticed... AC blowing warm at red lights.
