Default 2013 lr2

Hello everyone. Newbie here. I just purchased a 2013 lr2 160000km. This is our first Land Rover. Actually my daughter bought it. Of all the test drives we have gone on, she liked the way this one drove and felt the best. My questions are…. What should I pay close attention to? What specific things should I look for? Hoses? Seals? Gaskets? etc. any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't know your model or engine type but here is a forum search re maintenance items:

Mine is a 2008, volvo si6 engine, and I am very proactive with it. One thing to be aware of, never let the battery on these vehicles get low/flat or LR2/FL2s will give you a world of problems.

Speaking as a father myself, if you just bought it, unless you 100% trust your daughter's life against any maintenance records included in the sale or the word of the seller, the obvious answer is "Everything. Front to back, top to bottom." Find a trusted mechanic with a good reputation and preferably a daughter himself, bring him/her the car and let him/her loose on it. I would do no less.

Thanks for the input. Have a mech/good friend that I trust. He works on these as well as other imports. So that’s a start. Fingers crossed.

So about 80K miles? Look around here, there are some lists of important mx items, including mfg items as well as some important items from Volvo which JLR did not bother with (they expect you to just buy new major components every 100K rather than change fluids).

What engine do you have?

My daughter is inheriting our 2008 for HS (driving around town), but I'll probably get her something else for college... at high mileage I won't trust the car for long road trips with her alone.

You know, problems could happen with any car. Might be a good idea to teach her how to deal with the more basic issues.

Yup, she's been helping me for years and we just transitioned to her doing it on the LR2, with me helping.

It has the 4 cyl. Turbo. She has a grasp of the basic fluid level checks. We just crawled around under the car today looking for leaks. We found one coolant line with a small sweat mark on it. It is just behind the front driver tire. So we will keep an eye on it as well as coolant levels.

Here's a thread from the Brit site that covers high-mileage stuff...

https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic32504.html

Good site, be aware that they're usually talking about diesel engines, not gas. Paul's thread is addressing the I6 3.2, so the engine items may not apply to you. But the power-train after the engine is the same on all these cars.

I reiterate that the two best things to do for now are:
  1. Unless you have clear maintenance records showing otherwise, assuming no preventive and scheduled maintenance has been done and do everything in the owner's manual, including tuneup, all filters and fluids, etc. Consider using an engine anti-friction additive on every oil change. I use Liqui-Moly MoS2 and so do others here, or you can ask your mechanic for a recommendation. Your engine will thank you for it.
  2. Take the car to your mechanic and let the trained eyeballs look it over top to bottom, front to back, and give you a list of things that should be taken care of.
