Advice needed: Safety concerns about installing radio/navigation system (2011 HSE)
Hi. I am planning on installing a nav/media system in my 2011 LR2 HSE. But I'm not sure where to put it. I want to get the installation done by Best Buy (I can't find anyone else to do it) but I have to buy it from them and their radios will only fit below where the radio is in the LR2. I'm worried that it is too low for me to look down while I'm driving. What do you guys think? Most monitor/nav systems are installed near the dash so the driver can still see the road while driving. Is it dangerous? Has anyone had any problems while driving? I've attached an image to show what I'm talking about. Is this too low?
For a Nav system, way too low to look down at the GPS; get a XTRONS 7" Android 10.0 PX6 Car Stereo Player GPS for Land Rover Freelander 2 2007-2010 2011 2012 Carplay DSP 4+64GB No DVD; that's actually made for your LR2/Freelander 2(in Europe). Do your research on it, you can google youtube for Xtrons + freelander 2 and there are How tos. Go to the Xtrons website, model #PQS71DLRL-1

I agree, that is too low. There are systems out there specifically designed for the LR2 that will interface correctly with the steering wheel radio controls, for example.
I did find the unit ThorInc recommends on Amazon for $429, but it says the SIM card function does not work in the US. Apparently it says it is 4G but it is probably one of those 3G units faking 4G. 3G is being discontinued in the US.
Thanks for providing the image. As you probably know, the LR system gets installed in that cubby between the air vents. Thats where mine is and it works fine.
I agree with my colleagues, get a system that integrates with the LR systems. Seamlessly and flawlessly.
Letting some generic system be installed by some generic ‘tech’ is asking for trouble.

Just set your working mobile smart phone (with data) up as a mobile HOTSPOT and your Xtrons should, technically, be good to go (by connecting through your phone).

I use Google FI. If I want hotspot I have to spend $30/mo more. Not worth it. I'd prefer a SIM slot that works in the US for a data-only plan.
