Got it, thanks for explaining the difference.

Dave, are the OEM clips that much different from aftermarket clips to cause concern?

Often we go to aftermarket parts to save money. But in the case of brake pads, the bigger reason is the OEM pads generate too much dust. My wheels are black most of the time. Aftermarket ceramic pads are the next best alternative. So it's of great interest to know if the aftermarket parts, including the caliper clips, can work effectively.

I fully understand aftermarket parts, and these are quality pads. A different designed clip, as long as fitment is good, will not cause any issues, aside from possible noise, which is a cause of concern from a shop stand point.

My main reason for the question was to see if I would be able to source something to use with these, as I haven't been able to yet.

The recall was for the bolts that hold the bracket to the knuckle not being torqued properly.

Patch bolts are installed in many different places in the vehicle, they are basically a bolt with loctite pre-applied to the threads. To properly reuse this kind of bolt, the threads should be cleaned, and appropriate loctite correctly applied before installing them.
Anybody know whether it would be red or blue loctite for caliper bolts?

Did the front brakes today. NAPA Premium Rotors (ie Raybestos), Textar semi-metallic pads, Carquest Pad Clips. I re-used the torque-plate bolts (cleaned them and applied blue loctite).

The pad clips were in fine shape, I seriously doubt they needed to be replaced but I bought them in advance so what the heck.

Works fine, no noise. We'll see if they still make dust like OEM. I'll be doing a trailer trip in the mountains next month (3500# camper), so that will be the real test.

Update: a couple thousand miles later including a a trip to the Sierras with a 3500# trailer, all is still good. Less dust than OEM pads by a significant margin but still a little dust. Might try ceramics next time.

I installed Akebono Euro Ceramic pads front and rear about 4K miles ago, along with new Land Rover disks. So far no issues. The pads went on without a problem and produce very little dust in operation. Braking does not have quite the same iniitial grab as the OEM but aside from that performance is the same. I actually prefer the feel of the Akebono pads over the OEM, and they are much better than some of the other aftermarket (Centric) pads I've tried. Rotors were replaced at 100k miles.
