Default Anyone know how to bypass the Steering lock module LR2?

Since I've been having problems with my steering lock module and they want me to replace the entire steering column just because they don't sell the $200 part that locks the column. Does anyone know how to bypass the 4pin connector? I could really care less if the car has a steering lock and I don't want my wife to get stranded the next time it acts up.
Thanks for any tips.

Oliver

Default What did you come up with as a fix????

Did you ever come up with a fix of bypass for the steering column lock problem. My LR2 has done it twice now in the past two weeks.
Thanks

I did not. I took the lock off and wd-40ed it which lasted until I sold the car a year later. It's held on with safety bolts so I had to Dremel a notch in them since they're smooth round bolts. Good luck the dealer wants $1100-$1500 if I remember correctly to replace the whole steering column.

You need to contact local car dismantlers to find these parts. In the US the best place to go is here: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market This will let you search nationwide, and also send out a request to dismantlers to find something that is not listed. I've found quite a few things at excellent prices, including a left side fender/wing, right side rear view mirror assembly and a rear wiper motor.

Hi - I've just bought one of these, do you leave it permanently connected, if so where did you store it.
Thanks

^^^^^ Hi Mark, if you are referring to the item in post #4, it's a permanent attachment.

I just purchased one of the MK3.com emulators described above as a cheap insurance policy in case this happens to me. I'm keeping it in my glovebox along with a T15 torx driver to gain access to the steering column.

If you order one, they ship it from Turkey to the USA. Be sure to request they ship via DHL so you'll get it in about one week. The first one they shipped to me was via TNT/Fedex and it never arrived.
