The button on my LR2 gearstick had a bit of wire/metal sticking out of the button location preventing the button from being pressed in, fiddled with the wire and it disappeared back behind the button. It is causing the button to stick on occassions and can be heard rattling

How do I remove the gearstick and gain access behind the button?

I've never done what you are asking about, but here are two videos that show how to remove the gear shifter on similar vehicles. Hope this helps, and let us know how it goes.
