Default Coolant Resevoir Cap

I turn the cap counter clockwise, hear a click, keeps turning easily and then gets tight, feeling like I am tightening it rather than try to remove it.

That's normal. I was using channel locks to get it off at one point.

I eventually replaced the coolant reservoir, now the (new) cap comes off more easily for whatever reason.

Suggest you keep a spare cap on hand. Mine broke when I removed it, and if I didn't have a handy replacement I would not have been able to use the car for several days waiting for delivery.

I also lubed the threads with silicone grease at one point, that seemed to help some.

Yes unlike many cars, the reservoir is fully pressurized... the cap must be fully on to drive.
