Land Rover issued a letter dated Dec. 14, 2009 titled "Service Action Q081-Si6 Engine Vent Hose Coolant Leak LR2 2008-2010". It states, "A potential concern has been identified with a number of LR2 vehicles regarding a coolant leak from the quick connector joint securing a vent hose to the engine. The coolant leak is a drip; therefore, the vehicle will lose coolant over an extended period of time. The loss in coolant could lead to engine overheating issues which in turn could trigger the reduced performance strategy."
For my 2008 LR2, I replaced this OEM vent hose ( LR019341 ) three separate times because the connectors always had the drip leak as described above. The drip is very minor and would otherwise be a shrug except that it's right over the top of the alternator which has open vents in its housing.
I finally decided to take action to solve this problem. I cut off the connector on the plastic vent hose and replaced it with a short length of silicone heater hose (ID 1/4" or 6mm) that I purchased on eBay. It fits snugly over both the plastic vent hose and the short metal pipe on the engine. A couple small hose clamps secures it further.
Photos attached. Not pretty, but solves this problem once and for all. And I like the fact that the small section of hose I added is clear so I can see the orange coolant right through the hose! > > >
