Freespender2 2008
Hey all. Happy anew Year to you! I am having some issues with my Freelander2/LR2 that I suspect are related to transmission and /or motor mounts. Can anyone link me to any step by step tutorials with video(pics are fine too) for checking, changing, filling tranny fluid, and also for changing motor mounts? You’re all top notch people! Thanks!

Keep in mind that on the LR2 there are engine mounts and there are engine mount INSULATORS. The latter are much more likely to be your problem, and they are not difficult to change if you have the right tools. I just did mine. You can buy a full set of three insulator mounts on eBay for $88 and change.

The manual will also tell you how to change the transmission fluid. Technically the level must be set at 50-60 degrees fluid temp and you can find videos on Youtube on said Aisin transmission with the si6 engine in the Volvo models. I tried a variety of compatible fluids including Amsoil synthetics and ultimately found that the transmission responded the absolute best to the Aisin ORIGINAL (non synthetic), I believe the J3309? Whatever it is, it's the exact fluid it came with from the factory and not the preceding Aisin newer fluid.
If you choose to drain and fill, just put back in what you took out and maybe do that 5-6 times over a few weeks. At the time I got a case from rockauto, they had the best price.
It can't hurt to buy a new fill plug (which sits under the air box) as well as it seems to torque the heck out of itself over time likely from the hot and cold cycles. You can weld a nut to the original as an improvement
