Default Fuel level sending unit.

Hey folks! I recently replaced my fuel pump on my 2008 LR2. It works beautifully with one exception: each time I start the vehicle my fuel gauge jumps up to over 1/4 tank and the “range” readout is at 130 miles. Within the first 10 minutes of diving both the gauge and the readout come do to normal and more accurate level. Any ideas what i did wrong? I used an OEM pump replacement from Delphi.

The sender unit is not part of the pump, it's located on the left side of the fuel tank. There may be some gunk in there blocking the float which gets dislodged when driving. The only way to correctly clean the LR2 tank is to drop it and clean it through the fuel pump opening. I would just live with it.

There are two floats. One connected to the pump and the one on the left side of the tank. This didn’t seem like gunk because it resets itself perfectly to 130 miles range every time I start the vehicle, no matter what the actual fuel level is. And then slowly corrects itself over almost exactly 8 minutes every time. Very strange.

Do a hard battery reset as described by merlin79, worth a shot and easy fix if it works.

Disconnect both battery cables (neg first)
Wait ten minutes
Touch battery cable ends together

Connect battery (pos first)

Insert key fob (don't turn on)

Turn car systems on, but not the motor (with foot off brake, press and hold start button for a few seconds)

If he followed the service manual instructions, the battery was already disconnected for a lot longer than it takes for the ECM to reset.

This is true. But not everybody does.
