Ended up being the haldex unit, serviced it cleaned the pump and new filter new oil. No more clunking, the oil was like sludge probably never changed.

Default Haldex filter service kit.

Where did you purchase the Haldex filter service kit
My 2008 LR2 rear diff is beginning to clunk again.
The rear diff was replaced at 42,000miles by LR now at 80,000 starting to clunk slightly. They never serviced the Haldex unit I purchased a kit from the UK company 4 years ago but I’m having a hard time locating that information now.
When I pulled the Haldex cover at 50,000 because the cover o ring was starting to leak I had to pick the filter out with a needle nose pliers!

I think I got a volvo-branded kit, from FCP Euro?

IIRC 2008 should be the Haldex 3 but verify that.

Any idea if a limited slip additive is recommended during the rear diff fluid change in 2008 LR2??

I don't know about recommended but I've used Liqui Moly gear oil additive annually with a gear oil change since I replaced my rear diff for 4 years now.

Ok yes I’ve seen that product. Is that what you use completely when doing a flush and refill? If so I’ll probably give it a try. Ty

Default Liquid moly diff additive

Contains highly concentrated MoS2 to reduce wear in manual and differential transmissions, axle drives without integrated wet differential locks and mechanical steering systems. MoS2 reduces temperature peaks and ensures quieter running and smoother shifting. The transmission heats up less and benefits from smoother tooth faces in terms of quieter

ok I found it which diff fluid do you use?

I've used Amsoil 75w90 severe gear but their prices have really rocketed. I was contemplating switching to Motul 75w90 since I can get it at a better price and I change it annually since I tapped in a drain plug. My two cents on the fill amount. I service manual says to remove a small amount after fill, I don't.

The raised flat 3 side rectangle. If you go over to freel2.com, there are threads and some with pics.
