Default just bought LR2

I just picked up my 2008 LR2 SE from a dealer in Michigan, drove it back to Calgary. Paid $29,000 US for it (plus 6.1% duty), it had 4000 miles on it. On the highway home I drove over an ice chunk that kicked up and bent the heat shield on the undercarriage and made a terrible rattling noise until I could get it on a hoist to bend it back, problem solved. Total cost not including GST to me was $32,360 CAN(including running lights, inspections, fees, etc) plus the cost of flying down and driving it home, ($1,400 or so). The car is perfect, average mileage so far on the computer says 17.2 mpg, hopefully it improves. The ice offroad setting was amazing, especially on really icy two lane highways. So far I don't think I can change the computer to read km instead of miles, which is annoying. Otherwise it is perfect, couldn't ask for a better car at that price. Gently used LR2's in Canada go for $48,000 plus GST.

That's a great deal - much better than the price I paid in the mid 50k range for a new one from Land Rover Calgary! Just out of curiousity, will you be having them service it? If so, what type of treatment are you getting from them. I looked into purchasing in the US and bringing it up but was afraid of what type of service I would get since they are the only certified shop around for warranty stuff. I'll wave should we happen to pass on the road here!

i am wondering, if it was purchased from the dealership or person? It should be treated normaly anyway, no needs to explain - people migrate. when you buy a car in US and move to Calgary or vice versa, will it stop local delareship from servicing you?they are registered branch of North America LR, right?

Problem is that many more people are importing than migrating cars here these days so the assumption will be that you've imported. The deal is that they have to honour the warranty and will but they aren't going to be happy about it. When I raised the sceptre of getting one from the US they just got grumpy about it and it didn't help negotiations on price. On a positive note LR Calgary is also doing things to promote buying from them such as free washes and loaner vehicles for every service. Because customer service is so notoriously lousy in this oil-rich town, being put at the bottom of the list could make life really painful (As an example, Land Rover has been great but it just took me more than a month to book my wife's VW into the dealership for a simple oil change)
