Good idea about the premium gas. Probably get some on next ride. Ours Rover is '08, LR2, SE, 3.2 liter, 119,074 on odometer, Rimini Red, don't know about Carfax, my girl probably does but it's got reg. service records. Other than the issues I'm discussing here there's no other problems. Runs and drives like a champ, super cold A/C, little bit faded paint on hood but I'm going to fix that proper. ($6500 is just a starting point)

The premium gas is not a good idea... it's what the owner's manual and the gas cap door call for. Using regular gas on the LR2's high compression engine is asking for a reason to have to buy a new engine.

I haven't drove it enough to have to put gas in it yet. Had a full tank when I started working on it, still have a little less than half a tank. Since it's been parked for so long and that battery light constantly coming on plus what might've been wrong with it that I didn't know, I haven't been going too far from home. And apparently we don't have the manual everyone keeps talking about. Got the owners manual, 2 or 3 little booklets about warranties and a service records booklet but that's just basic stuff not specifics like y'all talk about.

The owner's manual explains the basics you need to know. And the fuel may have gone stale, which could explain your fuel problems. Unfortunately, you can't drain or siphon it out.

I know. That's why I wanted to put some injector cleaner and something to boost the gas that's In it

None of that will help until the stale fuel is out. "Boosting" especially will be a waste of money. If I were you and the tank was at least half empty I'd put fresh premium fuel in, go through the tank until the low fuel warning comes up and then refuel.

A quick search at ROCK AUTO shows these remanufactured options

AC Delco 150 AMP $129 (includes the overdrive pulley)
BOSCH 180 AMP $299 (includes the overdrive pulley)

I think the original Alternator is 180 Amps (the Repair Manual says that the 3.2 got 150 Amps and the Diesel got 150 Amps or 180 Amps)

If you look at FCP Euro you can get a new Alternator

BOSCH 180 AMP $322 (does not include the over drive pulley)
The Pulley 31316804 is about $80 if you search for it
And you need to get the install tool for about $20

Here is where you need to make a decision

Do you need 180 Amps or 150 Amps?

If this describes your use case then you need 180 Amps
- Start the engine and idle it for 20-30 minutes
- Front Windscreen Electrical Defrost is on
- Rear Windshield Electrical Defrost is on
- Both Seat Heaters are on
- High beams are on
- The HVAC Fan is set to MAX
- The AC Compressor and Engine FAN are running
- The Stereo is also set to MAX
- Every 12Volt socket is charging something
- Then drive about 100 feet in under 30 seconds
- You never drive any significant distance with the engine above 1800 RPMs

If that is not you use case then the 150 AMP is a cost effective alternative

And if you believe that AC Delco can be trusted then you have your answer

Good luck

Paul

Shouldn't the fusible link on the battery positive post be upgraded to 180 amps if you upgrade to the 180 amp alternator?

Only if it is actually an upgrade instead of a TYPO in the Service Manual.

According to BOSCH the right part for my 3.2 LR2 is

AL0870X

That's the 180 Amp Alternator

Vehicle Type Passenger
External Regulator Included Yes
Case Color Aluminum
Fan Type Internal
Amperage Rating 180
Voltage Regulator Type Internal

https://www.boschautoparts.com/p/rem...ed-alternators

https://www.boschautoparts.com/p/rem...ators-al0870x-

Who do you trust the Germans that made the alternator or the Brits that wrote the manual?

For reference the BOSCH website shows the 150 Amp or 180 Amp for my Volvo S80 with the same 3.2 as the LR2 so in that case you need to select the right one

Good Luck

Paul

My Volvo has the remanufactured Alternator

See a picture of the label with the part number https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...87687&start=50

More Alternator information (including a video of the Alternator Replacement) https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic37...hlight=al0870x

Good Luck

Paul
