Default Main relay does not cut off after stopping

Hi everyone!

I own a Freelander 2 or (LR2), 2.2 SD4, year: 2013 (it is the latest facelift edition).
So normally when I stop the car I can hear a beeping sound coming from the engine compartment for about 10-15 seconds, then I can hear all the relays clicking and there is complete silence after. But every once in a while (about 2 times out of a 100) the beeping sound keeps going on and on. My mechanic told me that the main relay doesn't cut off the power these times, so not only the beeping part keeps being powered but everything else is. So I usually wait a minute after stopping and locking the car and when I hear the beeping sound going on I open up the bonnet and deconnect battery earth for a few seconds so the beeping stops of course. When I put it back the beeping sounds comes back but only for a few seconds and I can hear the relays clicking and the beeping sound goes away. So obviosly the unpowering reset seems to be working, but it is really annoying to wait and listen after each stop. Now I only keep listening when I know I won't start the car in a few hours because I'm affraid the remaining beeping part and all the others will drain my battery overnight.

Does anybody have any ideas where to start looking for failure? Relay seems to be working fine 98 times out of a 100. Can it still be the culprit? Or wiring? ECU?

Any help or idea is much apprechiated!

My first guess would be a sticking relay, that can happen, they have mechanical parts. Cheap and easy to try a new one.

I would check your 5 door and hood locks. May need lubricating so they can make proper electrical contact when locking.

When a door is open the central lock won't work. When a door is unlocked the horn signals it on closing. For me everything works fine.

Where to start looking is a good code reader that understands JLR modules in your car. Everything else is blind guessing. The car has a computer. It's job is to monitor everything, store faults and wait until you ask what is wrong. Then it tells you. USE IT.
