98 Rover Wont Start. Relay Clicking. Wet Outside
Another "exciting" day in the Rover. I'm skimming RAVE currently to see if I can remedy. I live in Texas and it is very wet today. Drove it this morning ended up hitting a pretty large puddle. Drove fine. Got to work killed it. Tried to start it and there is a relay under the dash that clicks like crazy when key is in "ON" position. When I try to start it it will not turn over for about 5 seconds everytime, then it tries to start over but won't fire up. I located the relay that is clicking and have attached photos. Also under the hood there is a clicking sound coming from what appears to be inside the intake cover area. I assume there is some sort of short. Maybe wet starter ground causing relay to trip? Any help please? Thank you.
It is the relay at the very far end closest to the fire wall under the passenger side kick panel. Not sure what it is.

This is the Bit$&.

Plug relay back in.
Under the hood is another fuse box.
But - the D1 series has a black box on the passenger side fender wall. Inside is the ECU. Yours is wet. Disconnect battery before moving this module.

Maybe you missed. In the title it says 98. The relay I pulled is the one making the clicking noise. As soon as I put the key in the "on", it starts clicking. If I turn the key and hold on ignition it still clicks, motor does not turn over for about 5 seconds then it will turn over and crank but it will not fire up. Inertia switch is good. Any idea what relay that is in the photo? It is the last yellow one. Closest to the firewall in the passenger side kick panel.
I did , and that changes everything, sorry. Your ECU is in a plastic box on passenger side fender, between windshield washer jug and the battery. ECU is wet. Also, there is a smaller black box with the multifunction relay, but is is usually more robust. Dry out and weather proof ECU. Battery disconnected when working on it.
Shorted out the ECU. The previous owner had a Tornado Chipped ECU for a 4.0 Disco. Got it and plugged it in and it's running again with no issues. We'll see if the Tornado Chipped ECU's are worth the money.
I Had the same thing happen when I stalled out in a mud bog due to driving to fast in water. I had the same clicking. After disconnecting the airbox and letting everything under the hood dry out it finally started in almost waist deep water.
