Default Muffler/exhaust issues!!!

My 2008 Land Rover LR2's muffler needed to be replaced because it was rusted and holey and my truck was noisy when I started it. I spent about $150 on the muffler, which I had my mechanic friend weld onto the vehicle. Everything was great for about six months before it started to be loud again, and when I looked, the new muffler already had a 6x6 inch hole in it. I therefore tried every possible temporary fix to patch a muffler, but nothing worked. I've tried Tiger Patch/tape, JB Weld, and an aluminum sheet. How could this have happened to a brand-new muffler so quickly? Is my exhaust clogged? Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

THIS IS NOT MY NEW MUFFLER!! Just showing y’all my old muffler, which clearly needed to be replaced.😑🤦‍♀️🫣😳

Well, it's pretty obvious you again need another muffler. Warranty possible on the replacement?

On a different note, do you park on (wet) grass? If you do, don't.

I don't see much rust on your old muffler, but are you in a Rust Belt state where that is a common problem?

Did you check for any OBD codes that might indicate a related problem in the exhaust system causing it to run too hot?

A good muffler is supposed to handle conditions that could lead to this, certainly for more than six months. It sounds like you went the really cheap route and learned your lesson. This time, go to a reputable muffler shop or three and ask for quotes.

Wow. I have 230K and 14 years on the original muffler on mine. I can't think of any good reason why a muffler would last only 6 months unless it was poorly made with no corrosion protection at all. Even then, it should last a few years. Is it possible that someone is vandalizing it wherever you're parking it?

If it were mine, I would take it to a shop like a Meineke where they'll offer a warranty on both the muffler and the install.

The '08 I just got has 143K miles on it and the muffler is good but the pipes are getting funky. Due to a problem passing RI emissions I had to go all new CATS so the muffler got replaced too.

For what it's worth, Muffler Express in Ontario, Canada has the LR2 rear cat converters at between $449 and $649. The difference is how many years warranty you want, 90 days to 2 years. They also give veteran discounts.
