I just purchased a 2008 LR2 with 130k KM on it about 2 weeks ago. In the past week I've been having a issue when starting the car, it doesn't turn over right away. no pattern to the issue, some days it starts fine others days it struggles.
The car does eventually fire up every time and runs with zero issues.

I've had the battery tested twice and both times the mechanic said it was fine and buying a new battery wouldn't make a difference.

Is this a common problem for the LR2s? I don't want to send it to a mechanic and they start replacing the starter or fuel pump when its a easy fix.

Thanks Rover2013, thats sounds maybe like the cause after searching that issue. Now I hope the dealer knows about this issue and can reset it.

 

Which brand of gasoline are you using?

 

I called the dealer and they never heard of "crash mode/status".

I'm using Premium gas 91 octane in Canada which is 93 in the US I believe.

Still inconsistent, this morning was -10 degrees Celsius and it starting with no issue.

 

Which brand of high octane gas?

 

Petro Canada, I doubt its the gas

 

I have an 08 LR2 with a similar problem which I've posted about. I recently found a story (posted on a different auto forum) from an LR2 owner in Canada with the same problem. She discovered that the problem disappeared when she switched from Shell gas to Mohawk gas.

It's possible that our LR2's are very fussy about the gas we put in them, especially since each brand of gas has its own unique blend of detergents and other processing.

When my tank gets low, I'm going to try switching to a new brand of gas from a different refinery to see if it helps with my problem. I should know the results in a couple weeks.
