Default Program Key Fob

Looking for suggestions on how to get an OE Key Fob programmed. I bought an OEM key fob off of eBay. I called the dealer and they wanted $200 - anyone have suggestions on lower priced alternatives in the Dallas, TX, area?

Thanks.

That's what dealers charge. If you are a military veteran, ask for the discount. Otherwise download the JLR SDD software available elsewhere here, buy a Mongoose cable and DIY, but be careful, if you don't know what you are doing you can brick the ECU. You can also find a mechanic that already has the SDD.

Interesting, I didn't know that LR dealers offer a military discount. In your experience, do they want to see form DD214 or just take your word for it?

I wouldn’t chance it. You have an opportunity to brick the vehicle…. or not: Go to the dealer.

And are you CERTAIN the board inside the fob is an LR board?

Not all, just some. You lose nothing by asking. Bring the DD214 just in case. I just wear my veteran hat with the gold aircrew wings and other paraphernalia.

I have a third party FOB as well, works perfect, not hard to reverse engineer the boards,

They just care about the money, but they require you to pay in advance with the warning that if the programming fails, they will not refund it. I had a guarantee from the seller that they would cover the fee if it fails, so I was in "Meh." mode.
