You can also find a mechanic that already has the SDD.

And are you CERTAIN the board inside the fob is an LR board?
You can also DIY with an Autel AP200, without risk of bricking the ECU (the AP200 doesn't have the full functionality that SDD has, but it will do keys).

Not bad for a mere $60... You can even get them at Wally World. The SDD requires that power supply too. That's minimum $350 for the Midtronics PSC550 on eBay, if you can find it. I picked one up, but only because its excellent for my school bus.

@merlinj79 Thanks - the video shows a pre-2013 LR2 with a different keyfob. Do you know if it will work with the newer (2013) key fob? I couldn't find any info to confirm. Thanks again.

Don't know the answer to that.

Unfortunately, the AP200 doesn't work with the newer style key fobs. When I loaded the LR OE data then entered the VIN, it had less options available. You cannot program key fobs, you can only verify.

I'll continue to look for a locksmith - wish me luck. If anyone knows of anyone in the DFW area, please DM me or reply.

Thanks all.

Locksmiths do not do Land Rover key fobs. It's either a dealer or a shop with the JLR SDD software anda Mongoose cable.

+1 on that. I visited several locksmiths to have this done and they all referred me to the dealer. They explained that the low demand for relatively few JLR vehicles does not offset the ongoing cost of the software subscription. And a professional locksmith shop would only buy genuine OEM devices and software which is pricey.

Exact-o-mondo. Nobody's going to pay a pisspotful of money to JLR to do a key once in a blue moon, especially when the car has to be brought in as well. Just take it to the dealer.

Default Is this possible without the original key?

I'm in Canada with a 2008 lr2, lost the keys. Windows down and everything. Had it delivered to Landrover, took 5 months sitting outside with the windows down since they didn't think to cover them up and so they tried to program the key and now says the key didn't work due to water damage. Now I don't know if that means they fried something or what. Now I'm really in a jam and have run out of options. I figured I'd spend the rest of the winter letting it dry out then try again but was wondering if I can DIY without an original key and from scratch with a purchased keyfob. Is it possible to buy an entirely new system or off a second hand vehicle that may already have a set of keys or? Side question.

Doesn't the iCarsoft Professional Multi-System Auto Diagnostic Tool LR V2.0 support pairing of FOBs?
