Pulling trigger on a 2008 LR2...advice needed
New member here...2nd post!
SO I will be joining you guys with a 2008 LR2 HSE next week. I am looking at one from a very reputable dealership. It has 48k miles. My question is, do you guys have any suggestions as far as what I should inspect on this car before buying? Besides the oblivious i.e. timing belt, mechanical operation. Most of you own one, so I figured you may know some things in particular I should look at. Also any things I should ask the dealer? Thanks for any advice!

The LR2 is a pretty reliable truck. Most widespread issue with them that comes to mind is with a coolant hose leaking, which leaks directly onto the alternator. There were also some issues with the rear differential, both leaks and making noise. Sunroof issues were common early on, but I haven't seen an issue in years, so they might have all been fixed, just make sure it doesn't click or bind too much when opening/closing There is no timing belt on it, it's a combination of gear and chain drive. More so then most Rovers, most of the time these come into the shop, it's simply for maintenance.
With the low mileage of the car, I would suggest an extended warranty along with the purchase, if you're planning on keeping it for a while. Most of the better warranties are transferable, or prorated, so even if you don't keep it for the entire time, you can usually get something back from it. It may seem slightly expensive to start with, but Land Rovers are expensive to repair, and you will likely get your money back out of it in the long run.
I believe the LR2 shares the same engine and drivetrain components as the Volvo S80, at least for the 2008 - 2012 models. You might even say the LR2 is a Volvo with a Land Rover badge, which might account for the improved reliability of the LR2 over it's more expensive Land Rover cousins.
