Default Rear differential

I have a 2008 lr2 with 77000 miles. Looks great & drives great...until last week. As I increase speed I hear a whining noise from rear right tire. The sound winds up an down with speed. I believe that it may be my rear differential going bad. In my research this may be an ongoing issue with the most 2008 land rovers. Anyone else heard of this? Is it a manufacture defect?

How old are the tires? We get something similar from our 2010 but the mechanic says it's tires, not differential.

Switch tires from left to right. If the sound shifts to the other side you know it's only the tire.

Turns out its ball bearings for a cost just under $600.
