The manual covers both i6 and diesel engines, so make sure you're in the right section for engine stuff. Most other systems are common.

Also, check the haldex fuse while you are at it, easy fix if.....

I was reading somewhere that the splines had stripped on the drive shaft to differential end. Leads to the question, HOW does one do that?!

One way to do that is to have a bad u-joint that has too much play, hearing the "thunk!" when moving out and not doing anything about it. Eventually the thunks pile up and the splines are damaged.
