Default Spark plugs

Hello everyone. Hope I’m not starting a “discussion”. What spark plugs are you using in the 2.0l 4cyl turbo? I was going to go with iridium, just wondering what others think?

The Land Rover OEM spark plugs for your engine (p/n LR005483) are actually Champion EON Titan spark plugs, not Iridium-tipped.

And they are good plugs at that.

Default denso irridium

Hi - I recently installed dense iridium plugs - idea being that they will also longest, best spark, etc..... So far so good.

Amazon Amazon

I had just before replace the plugs in our land cruiser with same and had a good result, therefore did same for LR2.

I've been using the Denso iridium TT on all of my vehicles... noticeable boost in power.

The thing with iridium plugs is that the are much more expensive than platinum plugs, and any performance increase is barely noticeable. For me it's more a six of one, half a dozen of the other type of thing.

Merlin,

I am also using the Iridium TT plugs or Iridium Power on every car that I own that Denso makes an appropriate plug for.
Note: for my 3.2 I have a pack of TTs on the shelf waiting to upgrade from the Iridium Power (Single fine wire)

Here is what I think about the Iridium TTs

1. The fine wire tip makes it easier for the spark to jump the gap
- The ECU will adjust the power output of the coil to minimize misfire events
----- Even though the ECU can compensate doing so will shorten the life of your coil packs
-------- i.e. your engine can operate at Redline. Would you operate it that way 100% of the time and expect the engine to last 500K miles?

2. The TTs are advertised as reducing quench (Flame starts but get extinguished)
- The ECU will log these events as misfires
----- These misfires will affect the monitoring of the catalyst efficiency (make it more likely for a good CAT to fail and set a code)

- When the Catalyst efficiency is checked the ECU commands a lean mixture then rich then lean to see how much O2 the CAT stores
----- Lean Mixture are more difficult to ignite
------- The TT will be more likely to ignite the lean mixture consistently
---------- Volvo on the 3.2 and 3.0T switched to the TT plugs from the Iridium Long-life after 2011
------------- The TTs are more expensive than the Long-life so my assertion is that Volvo had a reason to do this

3. I think of the TTs as a performance device that has the side benefit of improving emissions

Here is what I would get if I owned a 2.0T

Iridium TT 4719 (ITV20TT) Gap 0.040 2013 Land Rover LR2 SE L4 2.0L

Good luck

Paul

Paul - thx for all the tech background - I had no idea - my objective was to use the Iridium plugs for longevity - the one you recommend is what I put in my 2.0L T. Hoping to get at least 100k miles from them.

Default time for new plugs..... general interest

OK - after all the maintenance on the LR2 my conscience was suitably pricked & I started on the much loved and neglected family beater - 04 Yukon 6.0L V8 - suspect the plugs have never been changed (ever) - now at 196k miles (Champion Iridium). Had noticed some rough idle but nothing show-stopping.

old & new - old 196k miles (suspected) - Champion Iridium

Dude... you need to start reading the maintenance schedule sections on your vehicle owner manuals.
